Do you have an old analogue television aerial or satellite dish attached to your roof that you haven’t used in years? If so, you may be wondering whether it’s time to have it removed.
Many New Zealanders across the country have made the switch to digital television and streaming services, such as Netflix and Amazon Prime, making their old aerials and satellite dishes redundant.
Old, rusted aerials certainly aren’t pretty and can reduce your home’s street appeal. You may also not be aware that the average lifespan of a TV antenna is considered to be 10 – 15 years. Old aerials and dishes can become loose as they degrade, posing a risk – both to your family’s safety, but also to the integrity of your roof.
If you no longer need your aerial, removing it is a smart idea. This isn’t always as straightforward as it sounds, though – particularly if your home is two storeys or more.
Luckily, Ezy Peazy’s extensive network includes reliable, capable taskers who can lend a hand. They’ll come to you, equipped with the necessary tools and know-how to expertly remove your unwanted dish or antenna. After they’ve removed your unwanted hardware, they can also help with recycling and disposal and even repairing any damage left behind by rusting or general wear and tear.
Dismantling and removing an old aerial can be a tricky task. You’ll not only need to remove the aerial itself, but all its bolts, brackets, cable and any other hardware too. The next challenge is getting the components off the roof and onto the ground.
It’s a job that should be approached with the utmost caution, especially if your roof is on the higher or steeper side.
At Ezy Peazy, we recommend enlisting the help of a professional. They’ll have the requisite experience and skills to ensure the job is done safely, minimising risk to you and your property.
Just as TV aerial removal can be difficult, so too can satellite dish removal. Old dishes can be awkward and heavy – and manoeuvring one across a roof and then down onto the ground can be a particularly dangerous task if you’re inexperienced.
The good thing is that Ezy Peazy is here to assist. Listing a dish removal job is simple. Just outline your requirements, preferred budget and timeframe and we’ll connect you with an Auckland-based tasker who can not only remove your unwanted satellite dish, but take it away for you too.
If your dish or aerial isn’t overly old or rusted, it may be possible to recycle it entirely – or at least parts of it. Many recycling and scrap metal facilities, for instance, will take aluminium or steel components. This is a much more environmentally friendly option than sending your unwanted hardware to landfill.
It may well be the case, however, that your antenna or dish is past its best. Not to worry, though - friendly Auckland-based taskers have got you covered here too.
Once they’ve removed your used hardware, they can also take it away to be disposed of responsibly.
Because they’re fixed to your roof, TV antenna and dishes can leave holes behind once removed. You might also find that rusting, loosened bolts or general wear and tear from high winds have damaged your roof’s surface over time.
Taskers enlisted via Ezy Peazy’s platform can help repair your roof once they’ve completed the removal job, patching any holes and ensuring watertightness. You can ask them to inspect the area near the aerial or dish while they’re up there to check whether there are any issues needing attention.
Have other jobs you could use a hand with? No worries!
Dealing with old TV aerials and satellite dishes isn’t the only thing we can help you with at Ezy Peazy. From removing general waste and appliances to garden waste removal – reliable Auckland-based taskers have you covered.
