There’s no doubt about it, sash windows are beautiful, giving a classic touch to any home. While typically found in older villas in New Zealand, it’s possible to get modern, aluminum equivalents added to your home – even ones with double-glazing!
Just like any other windows, sash windows are prone to breaking down over time, and before too long, you might need to get yours repaired or replaced – especially if your home is of an older vintage.
If your windows are rattling on windy days, getting stuck when you try to open them or they’re not staying up, there’s a whole range of window repair services available via Ezy Peazy – including sash window repair.
Whether you need worn-out cords replaced, seals fixed, glass panes replaced, or something else, local Christchurch-based taskers you hire via Ezy Peazy have you covered! They’ll sort out your sash window issues quickly and professionally, ensuring the original character of your home is retained.
Not sure what’s causing your sash window to get stuck? No problem. The first step of any repair, replacement, or restoration job is to complete a thorough assessment.
You can call on the help of a local Christchurch-based tasker who will come to your home and carry out a complete inspection. They’ll carefully examine your sash windows, including all framing, glass, sealing, and hardware looking for signs of damage and deterioration.
Once they’ve carried out their inspection, they’ll provide you with their recommendations and prepare a detailed quote, giving you the flexibility to decide whether or not you’d like to go ahead.
Just like standard windows, wooden sash windows are prone to wood rot, wood borer beetles, dry rot, warping and moisture damage. All of these can take a toll on the functionality and look of your windows. In some scenarios, it’s possible to provide a fix for these issues – whether that’s replacing sections of wood, filling cracks, or using heat treatment to address warping. However, in some circumstances, you may need to consider a full window sash replacement.
Whatever the scenario, rest assured that your tasker will always prioritize the least drastic course of action and look to preserve as much of the original timber as possible.
Need help with sash window refurbishment? If your windows are old and not functioning as they once were, and you want to upgrade them while protecting their original character – perhaps by installing double-glazing or replacing the framing - your professional tasker has you covered here, too. Just discuss your needs with them and they’ll provide a detailed and thorough quote.
Although more resilient than traditional wooden sash windows, aluminum sash windows can succumb to wear and tear after a while, too – whether that’s warping, corrosion, cracks, or scratches.

Again, they’ll always prioritize restoring and repairing your window, rather than opting for a full replacement, saving you precious time and money.

Going through some basic timber window maintenance and have identified several areas of woodrot, detailed in the pictures. Beyond my DIY capabilities. The timber sash in the first image has some damage on both ends so I believe the entire 1000mm needs to come out. Have also included a picture of a window frame missing a slither of timber as well as a nearby weatherboard, which I would like fixed at the same time. Flexible on how quickly to be done, the sooner the better but not desperately urgent.
