What happened to MyTask?

The story of MyTask NZ

MyTask was a peer-to-peer marketplace in New Zealand that ceased operations in 2020. It was founded by an entrepreneur who had previously founded a similar marketplace called Kwota, and was backed by Yellow Pages at a valuation of $6 million and 50% equity sharing.

MyTask performed well in its first year, acquiring approximately 50,000 users. However, it stopped marketing as the COVID-19 pandemic began in early 2020. It continued to operate for a while, but in late 2020 it suddenly stopped — its website and app went dark and the company went silent.

There are a few possible explanations for MyTask's failure. One possibility is that giving away 50% of its equity led to management issues. Another possibility is that too much was spent on marketing and not enough on developing the product — the website was reportedly basic and lacked good content, with few new features introduced during its two years of operation.

Whatever the reason, MyTask's story is a reminder of the challenges faced by startups in the peer-to-peer marketplace space. It is important for these companies, including Ezy Peazy, to have a strong product and a clear plan for monetisation in order to be successful.

More than a marketplace

Part of a community

Ezy Peazy became better than MyTask because we are not just a marketplace — we are a community-oriented initiative. We strongly feel that our community needs an easy-to-use platform for daily chores, so people can spend their time on more productive and fulfilling things.

We continuously work behind the scenes to make it even more user-friendly and become a most valuable asset to our fellow Kiwis — with the motive of perfection.
