Summary
Installing a stainless steel wire trellis for an established grapevine on a timber pergola in Birkenhead required accurate onsite measurements and a timber inspection before work began. The pergola was roughly 4.8m long and 1.55m wide, and the customer supplied marine-grade stainless wire, turnbuckles, eye straps and fittings. The job attracted seven offers and the selected offer of $260 covered labour and the use of the supplied materials. The handyman confirmed the pergola’s fixing points, checked spacing and set out four parallel wire runs approximately 30–40cm apart across the pergola width. Wires were fixed to the inner faces of the horizontal boards using eye straps, thimbles and turnbuckles to achieve proper tension. The existing grapevine branches were gently tied to the new stainless steel wire trellis with soft plant ties. The customer rated the completed task 5/5 and commented: "Great work."

Looking for a reliable handyman to install a stainless steel wire support system for an established grapevine growing over our outdoor timber pergola. The job: * Install 4 separate, parallel stainless steel wire runs lengthwise along the pergola (not one continuous zigzagging wire). * Pergola is approximately 4.8m long and 1.55m wide. These measurements are estimates only and must be checked onsite before installation. * Space the four wires evenly/equidistantly across the pergola width (roughly 30–40cm apart, depending on onsite measurements). * Attach the wires to the inside faces of the horizontal timber boards at each end of the pergola, not underneath the boards. * Secure the wires using the supplied eye straps, turnbuckles and wire fittings, ensuring they are properly tensioned. * Gently lift and secure the existing grapevine branches to the wires using soft plant ties, without damaging the vine. Materials already purchased and supplied: * 30m roll of 3.2mm marine-grade stainless steel wire rope * 4 stainless steel turnbuckles * 12 stainless steel eye straps * Wire rope grips and thimbles * Soft plant ties * Wire cutters * Ladder available onsite Installer to bring: * Drill and appropriate drill bits * Screwdriver/driver bits and spanners * Suitable screws for fixing eye straps securely into the timber (if required) * Any additional tools or minor fittings needed Please inspect the timber and fixing points before installation to ensure they are suitable for supporting and tensioning the wires. Let me know if any additional materials are required. Location: Birkenhead, Auckland Timing: Flexible – weekday or weekend. I’ve attached photos of the existing pergola, purchased materials and a simple diagram illustrating the intended setup. Please provide a quote for completing the installation, including gently securing the grapevine to the new supports. The aim is a neat, unobtrusive and durable system to support the established vine.
